Locals Only

Wamic

I just got back into town after doing some assistant work on the set with Portland photographer Michael Halle. Michael is currently doing a photo documentation of locals out in Tygh Valley, Oregon. This was a shot I got of Michael hard at work with a lifelong farmer in the city of Wamic, OR.

So this evening I wrapped up my third and final Environmental Portrait shoot. I’m super happy with how all three shoots went. I relished in the freedom I felt being able to load gear into my backpack and do location shooting. My photo journeys took me to a mixed martial arts training center, a North Portland tavern and my old neighborhood. All three locations brought challenges that I had to work with but I felt that made for a more creative result.

Don’t Hurt Me

So, the photo shoot went very well for me this past weekend. This was the first time I had ever gone out on my own, to a public location, and worked with portable studio lights. The location was great, a mixed martial arts training center with super friendly people!

I found this first shoot to be very exciting, starting with the initial idea, all the way through to the editing process. It defiantly was a rewarding challenge going into an unfamiliar location, setting up lights and working in a condensed amount of time. From the time I walked in the door to the time I walked out, a grand total of forty to fifty minutes elapsed.

The photo above is a little taster of what I shot on Saturday.

Put Your Dukes Up

I have been doing a little reasearch for my Environmental Portrait photo shoot. I will be working with an athelete who does mixed martial arts. My thought is to capture him working out, with a punching bag, jumping rope, doing push-ups and other situations of phisical training. I find that I’m attracted to the “classic” old school boxing look of these photos.
