The individuals are many, the paths different, but the location is the same; Portland, Oregon. The common fiber between the four individuals that I photographed is relocation. Some came to the Rose City by choice, others by chance; some from far off lands, others less than a thousand miles away. The idea behind my vision for this project was to capture the vibrant nature Portland offers through the people who inhabit it. Each person was photographed in the neighborhood they reside in. Doing this created an easy going mood.
My project PDX Lifestyle was an outstanding subject for me to explore. I just put the final touches on my book and I’m very happy with the results. This project started as a way to challenge myself and ended in me thinking that fashion photography would be an avenue that I could be very successful in.
To get ideas for this project I created a notebook with images of fashion models torn from magazines such as Vogue and Elle. Doing this helped me study light, mood and body movements that I found interesting. This also helped the people that I was photographing, because before any shooting took place I would hand them the model release and the notebook to look at. I would point out certain poses that I would like to explore this gave my subjects a good idea of how to move and pose. I think my shots reflect this.
From the start I was concentrating on style, my style. One of the goals I had going in was to really study and focus myself on images that reflect my style. I now have become obsessed with fashion photographers, models and designers. This project has really opened up a new world for me to explore and that’s just what I’m going to do.
Here are some photographers that I studied for this project.
